Your  Coach/ Instructor will be more than just a teacher: he or she will be your child’s mentor, guide, and role model.
We have many Coaches on staff giving lessons at Pickwick Ice. Choosing the best coach for your child can be confusing, so take your time before making a commitment to a particular Coach or Instructor.
 

Here are a few things to think about before speaking with a coach.

• How much extra time am I willing to give a coach for lessons during the week?
• Where can I fit in extra time per week for lessons and practice
• Do you have the proper equipment for skating lessons?
• Is your child’s goal to compete in competition, or is this for recreational reasons and you just want them to be better skaters and have more fun on Public session?

These questions will help you when you’re ready to speak with a coach directly as they will follow up with these exact questions with you. We also like to recommend trying a coach on a trial basis. Narrow down the coaches you like and do a single lesson with each coach and make an informed decision from there. For more information on finding a coach please check with our Guest Services staff who will also be available to help answer your questions in finding the right coach at LA KINGS ICE.

There is no easy way to switch from a coach you have been working with for some time! However, the following suggestions will help you make or move forward with a change if you feel this is the right move for you and your child.

I have attached a link to the Professional Skaters Association (PSA) who has outlined what a proper change in coaching should look like. We do expect our coaches, skaters and parents to follow the guidelines of the PSA at all times.  https://skatepsa.com/parent-information

*Please note that many coaches work together or team teach and that is a good alternative to changing altogether.

GUEST COACHES RULES

• Guest coaches must contact the Skating Director for approval prior to teaching at LA Kings Ice Pickwick.
• Guest coaches may teach on freestyle sessions that are under maximum limit, if permission was granted to an advance request.
• Proof of Insurance must be supplied and all fees must be paid before going on ice.
• Guest coach must sign and date rules form.
• Guest coaches may teach a limit of two (2) sessions per day and no more than 5 days per month. 
• Guest coaches are not allowed on public sessions. You may request to use a public session but it must be approved by Management only.

ICE RULES AND REGULATIONS

All students are required to check in and pay before skating. Students and coaches are expected to obey Pickwick’s “Zero Tolerance Policy” no kicking ice, no profanity, and no attitude, facial or body gestures. Please refer to the policy posted at the music booth.

• No food or drinks on ice (water bottles ok.)
• Cellular phones or iPods are prohibited on the ice.
• No standing on the ice away from the rails.
• Music boxes (volume) must be kept to a minimum.
• The skater doing their program has the “right of way”. Yelling “move”, “ excuse me” etc... is not acceptable. The word “program” is to be used!
• RinkMusic- A Pickwick music “FOB” must be purchased for $15.00 to have music played. We cannot play music with a cd or ipod.
• Skaters doing their programs must wear colored belts (provided).
• Skaters and coaches must clear the ice immediately upon request.
